Program Note
I had heard a piano sonata by Haydn. I was so struck and moved by the constant landings from 4th beat to 1st beat. Many were the same, many were different, many were cadences, many were openings and some didn’t exactly go 4-1 at all but nonetheless left the same feeling as my favourite 4-1s from before. This all made me really happy. The sheer abundance of it all - of material, of repeats, of music and of emotions. It made me think of all my 4-1s, the abundance of music I’ve made. So I wrote a new piece and I went 4-1, then 4-1, then 4-1, a few 4-1 (2, 3), 4-1 and oh you’ll never guess!
